Overview
Who is it for? The Level 1 Award in Health and Safety for Retail is a qualification intended for delegates working in any sector of the retail or wholesale industry and those who are preparing or returning to work in the industry. Delegates gaining this qualification will know that Health and Safety is the responsibility of everyone within a business, including contractors, visitors and suppliers.
Course Objectives By the end of the course the delegates will be able to:
- Understand the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
- Understand the common causes of accidents and the costs to the economy and business
- Understand the causes and prevention methods associated with slips, trips and falls in the retail sector
- Identify the occupational diseases which PPE can prevent
- Understand the causes of fires and how they can be prevented
- Understand fire safety procedures
- Understand the causes of electrical shock
- Understand the correct way to lift and carry objects
- Understand how to work from height safely
- Understand the purposes of first aid
- Understand the correct way to use display screen equipment

It may seem that the course objectives and topics covered for all Health and Safety courses are exactly the same, this isn't the case. They are all very similar, however they are differentiated by sectors.
Assessment
Delegates will be assessed at the end of the course by completing a 15-question multiple-choice examination, the duration of which is 30 minutes. Successful delegates must achieve a score of at least 10 out of 15, in order to qualify and receive a certificate.
